Classic SEO gets you into the index. AI SEO gets you into the answer — when ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google AI Overviews synthesize a response and need a trustworthy source to quote.
You do not need a separate site. You need clearer structure: machine-readable summaries, explicit entity data, and pages written so the first paragraph stands alone as a direct answer.
▪llms.txt starter template
Publish a plain-text file at `/llms.txt` that lists your most important URLs with one-line descriptions. AI crawlers use it as a map — not a ranking guarantee, but cheap insurance.
Copy the block below and replace placeholders with your real pages.
# Your Company Name
> One sentence: who you help and what you deliver.
## Main pages
- [Home](https://example.com/): primary offer and contact
- [Services](https://example.com/services): what you sell, pricing signals
- [Resources](https://example.com/resources): free guides and checklists
- [Contact](https://example.com/contact): how to start a project
## Articles
- [Article title](https://example.com/blog/slug): one-line summary
## Contact
- Email: hello@example.com▪robots.txt — allow useful AI crawlers
Blocking every AI bot is tempting; it also hides you from tools your customers already use. A balanced approach: allow major crawlers on public marketing content, block admin paths.

Each important page should open with a self-contained paragraph: who it is for, what problem it solves, and the outcome — in plain language, no throat-clearing.
Use H2 questions your customers actually ask; answer in the first sentence under each heading. Link related guides to build topic clusters.
- ✓Lead with a 40–60 word direct answer before any story.
- ✓One H1, question-style H2s, bullet lists for steps and comparisons.
- ✓Tables for versus content — models, plans, features.
▪Action Steps
- 1
Publish llms.txt and link it from your footer or site index.
- 2
Update robots.txt; verify admin routes stay disallowed.
- 3
Add Organization JSON-LD on the homepage; validate in Rich Results Test.
- 4
Rewrite your top three money pages using the answer-block pattern.
